Premise is an International 600 Class 37’ yawl designed by Robert G. Henry Jr. and built in 1962 by the DeDood and Sons Yard in Bremen, Germany. She was built for Robert Arye, a wealthy Bar Harbor man and long time commodore of the Bar Harbor Yacht Club. Premise has sailed internationally, participating in four transatlantic races, several races to Bermuda and sails extensively in local waters off Acadia National Park and the rugged coast of Maine.

Beautifully built of African mahogany on laminated oak frames – Premise has always been finished bright. The varnished wood appears striking as the mahogany was all milled from a single tree. This boat is designed and built for serious sailing. She has wide teak decks, a stout rig, heavy bronze hardware, a full array of sails, and is powered by 3 cylinder Westerbeake auxiliary engine.

Premise is fully equipped for cruising. The galley includes a propane stove, oven, pots pans, utensils, plates cups, and ice box. She sleeps five with two in the V berth. All berths can be outfitted by us with sheets, blankets, and pillows. Electronics include VHF radio, speed and depth gauges, a Ratheyon combination radar-GPS unit with chart plotter and a sound system with radio and tape player.

The look and feel of this boat, from her varnished mahogany to the smell of wood below decks, presents the ambiance only a classic wooden yacht can provide.

Moored in Southwest Harbor off Manset on Mount Desert Island, Premise will give you access to some of the best cruising on the Maine Coast. Sail solo, or in the company of family and friends. Premise will deliver – Frenchman’s Bay, Somes Sound, Eggamoggen Reach and beyond.
